Memes & Motivation 37: Happy New Year
Hey Team,
Happy New Year! I hope that 2022 is a healthy and prosperous one for you, and your family.
I will keep this newsletter short. But it has been a crazy week where learnings from all of this year came together for me, along with a bunch of luck.
I had a Tweet thread go viral (thank you to those of you that subscribed to the newsletter from that!) 470k+ people read it, and over 2,500+ followed on Twitter. It is my story from the last decade, told as transparently as I could tell it in such a public forum.
I posted a follow-on thread sharing my learnings of what I think happened, hoping to leave bread crumbs for those behind me that want to learn.
While this is a small win, it is more than enough to reinforce my conviction to try even harder in 2022.
Let's get into a few things I ran into this week.
Two Tweets I Enjoyed
Alex is talking about trading in this Tweet but in my experience this holds for so much more than trading. My model to buy and hold realestate is super simple and I don't change a single thing. Once I found a simple model that worked for my career, I never changed it.
I tell people around me all the time do not mess with a working model, just lean on it.
A pretty good thread by Amanda for those aspiring to keep climbing the ladder in 2022. I wrote my own thread on getting a promotions in 2022 here, in which I tried to distill my model into the simplest words possible.
Two Articles I ran into this week:
Kyle Poyar’s Growth UnhingedKyle Poyar
I am particularly interested in SaaS growth these days and I found this article by Kyle to be pretty good. SaaS is a long game.
A good summary article by Bari, touching on quite a people that changed their minds this last year. I aspire to change my mind more in 2022.
Two Memes
A Meme I sent to a group chat with some friends in it. Might take another decade to pull another thread like the one I had this week.
Replying is to this email encouraged, I am a little behind on my emails and DMs but I promise to get back to everyone.
I am happy to help you if I can too, so reply if you think I can help in some way.
Again, a happy and healthy 2022.
Louie
