Common sense is powerful, but it's hard to make a show out of it. Just like it's equally unattractive to tell people there are no secrets just work and maybe getting lucky, but it's mostly work.

Your mom must have been a conservative Indian in her past life.... That's how most conservative Indian's do their match-making :) . Looking at the family/family tree is important, but I feel one more important point is missed when match-making. I feel the bonds would be stronger if both are in a similar or related profession.

100% Similarities matter a lot in lasting relationships. A lot less to argue about.

I hear you Rick.

I find myself spending very little time watching TV. But these marriage shows my wife and I enjoy watching together when we have some free time.

Silicon Valley style "Fail Fast"... even in marriage..

May be not considering the impact it has... few things are irreversible emotionally.. psychologically...

Experts may know you.. but not good enough.. (even individuals do not know how they react/change after marriage)

Great post Louie. Sounds like your mum embodies a tremendously high intuitive EQ. Nothing you could measure in a standardized university test or exam, but the real world results are impossible to argue with. Especially against the cultural ‘index’ outcome of 40-50% failure within X time period.

Balancing out seems like a recipe for disaster. My background is in communications. With compromise no one is happy. With looking for where there is overlap and seeing if there’s space to grow from there, the two sides can usually find a way to come to an agreement that makes both happy. It sounds like your mom intuitively looks for where there’s the largest area of overlap. Such a delightful read Louie. I hope you and your family has a wonderful holiday!

Haha, the "experts" reminded me of those who said Brexit would never happen and Trump would never win (first time). Short and fun, enjoyed this one Louie :)

Your mother is so effective at match-making because she's been doing it for long and has developed a gut-feel, her personal intuition that is very specific to the type of problem she's addressing.

Those other "experts" are PhDs that haven't worked a day in their life, haven't specialized in "hands-on match-making" and therefore have no track record to show for it.

(Am I being too harsh?? 😂)
